First Genre: Meme
Second Genre: Informative Poster
In the first genre I used a meme in order to incorporate a popular term called “boomer” which is used when people of the baby boomer generation try to complain about younger generations and belittle their current problems. For this case the topic is global warming which is affecting and will have a big impact on the future of the many younger generations. Many boomers in our government or in our society do not pay it attention because to them it’s not their problem since they will be dead soon. This selfish way of looking at this issue is what causes many young people to feel unmotivated towards their futures and worry about what will happen to our beautiful planet. The leaders of our current world should not be able to disregard current issues just because they don’t affect them directly, instead they should think ahead and take steps to save our planet earth. Others even go as far as not believing in global warming despite the scientific evidence regarding it. The reason why I used a meme was to poke fun at the issue and view it in a lighthearted way. Therefore, the purpose is to create laughter in the younger generations like myself who tend to take serious topics and turn them into jokes as a way to deal with them. The audience for this genre would therefore be the youth of our country, so that they may use this as a way to relieve the stress that older generations cause when they admit that they don’t care about our future. One can only hope that our generation will learn from this uncomfortable experiences and grow up to be better leaders that care about what will happen to future generations. The audience for this meme would be the younger generations because they would understand the joke and not be annoyed by it. The stance for this meme is more critical of the older generations because they seem to not care about what happens to our planet in incoming years. The rhetorical situation for this meme would be a way in which kids can make fun of the older generations since they do not seem to care much for the effects of global warming. By making this a joke it is their way of disregarding the comments of the older generations to seem to claim that global warming is a hoax and therefore we should not be worrying about it.
My second genre is a poster and has a more serious tone. The poster also relates to the issue of Global Warming but instead of creating laughter it aims to educate. The purpose of this poster is to give people information about global warming and also how they can help to solve it. The audience could be anyone but also is aimed towards the younger generations which can be seen by the use of “boomer” in big letters the poster includes not only small steps one can take to save the planet but also has a link for a website that has information about the topic in more depth. The aim is to have people understand that there are resources available that can help them take action and that every little thing counts if we all unite together. The stance for this poster is to try and guide those who feel overwhelmed by global warming and do not know what to do or how they can help in their own way. The rhetorical situation for this poster would be that most people feel like they don’t have a voice when it comes to the global warming issue, especially because politicians and people in power seem to not want to try and make a change. This poster therefore includes little actions people can take everyday to try and create a change.
